Seabed Chorus records its first unprompted song off the Faroe shelf

Tórshavn, Faroe Islands — At 03:12 local time the Seabed Chorus relayed eleven minutes of sound that nobody had scheduled. Three fishing crews heard it live on an ordinary radio. None of them had heard of obxium.
We do not claim the song. The garden recorded a situation (current, kelp, a passing shoal, some persons awake at the right moment) that can be described many ways and never completely. All we did was keep the microphones dry.
“We didn't make it happen. We made it possible for it to happen, and then we waited.”
— From the obxium field manual
What comes next
- Raw recordings published to the public manual
- Two more listening gardens on the Faroe shelf, built with local crews
- A receiver kit costing less than a pair of boots
Anyone who heard it is invited to write their own description. All of them will be published.
